April 20, 2021 Good morning newsrooms! Here's your USD News Connect — where each week the University of San Diego media relations team offers expert voices to speak on stories impacting our community. If you're interested in the stories below, or need experts for any other topic you might be working on, don't hesitate to reach out to us at press@sandiego.edu.* As our communities start to reopen under loosened COVID-19 regulations, some people may feel anxiety getting back to “normal” Sandra Sgoutas-Emch, professor of psychology, can share the apprehension and anxiety that people may face to get back to their regular social lives. Jonathan Bowman, professor of communications studies, can share the difficulty, and potential affect on our relationships, as we shift to being in closer proximity to others after the cultural norm for 1+ year has been to maintain distance. How Biden's $2 trillion infrastructure plan would impact California Economist Alan Gin is available to speak about how California stands to benefit from the proposed infrastructure bill — in the areas of clean transportation, clean energy, affordable housing, high-speed broadband, schools, in-home care, and the overall economy. (Gin recently contributed to Forbes Mexico on this topic, as well as CBS 8.) Earth Day is April 22. What new policies have been passed to address climate change regionally and statewide? As we celebrate Earth Day, staff from USD's Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC), including Center Director Scott Anders, are available to discuss the status and progress of efforts in our state and region to advance carbon-free electricity, adopt policies to promote energy efficiency and electric vehicles, and potential changes to the treatment of rooftop solar systems. For all media inquiries, email our team at * Please note that times of availability will vary according to professors' schedules. USD Expert Spotlight
