Some who have lost their jobs are taking new ones with different companies or in different professions. Even among those who had not been laid off, more are leaving their jobs to take new ones. The ability to work remotely has changed some labor markets from regional ones to a national one, leading to more competition for qualified workers. Alan Gin, professor of economics, can speak on this topic. Will Virtual Job Fairs be the New Way to Recruit Employees Post-Pandemic? A LinkedIn study found “70% of recruiting professionals believe that virtual recruiting is here to stay.” Robin Darmon, Senior Director of the Career Development Center, can explain this trend, how it allows for a broader range of candidates, and why students are enjoying these types of job fairs more than in-person events. Could an International Cyber Agreement Help Prevent Future Cyber Attacks? According to NPR, there have been talks of an international cyber agreement. Michelle Moore, Director of the Graduate Cyber Security Operations & Leadership program at USD, can provide insight into whether an international cyber agreement could help with the recent cyber attacks we've seen and what the agreement would need to entail to be effective. Ed Howard Children's Advocacy Institute Bill to Protect Children Online Signed into Law
Children in California now have more protections when going online thanks to a bill sponsored by the Children’s Advocacy Institute at The University of San Diego School of Law and California Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham. AB 891 was recently signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. It will require websites and social media companies to obtain direct parental consent in order for a minor to open an account.
