Award-Winning Documentaries Shed Light on Refugees’ Stories

It’s the final screening of a three-week film festival putting the spotlight on the stories of refugees all around the world. USD’s hosting the IRC Refugee Film Festival, which features award-winning filmmakers and documentaries. Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. is the final screening of the festival, a film called Chèche Lavi, about two Haitian migrants stranded at the U.S.-Mexico border amid a “geopolitical storm.” Following the screening, USD will host a distinguished lecture series event featuring Guerline M. Jozef, a leading human rights advocate and founder of the Haitian Bridge Alliance. Email press@sandiego.edu to RSVP.

Tax Season Has Been Pushed Back for San Diegans But What If You Have a Tax Issue to Resolve?

The IRS pushed back most California counties' tax deadline from last week to October but what if you have a tax issue that you still need to resolve by the new deadline? USD's Federal Tax Clinic works for free on behalf of low-income taxpayers who have on-going disputes with the IRS and need help resolving those tax controversies. USD law students work in the clinic under the supervision of experienced tax attorneys to get hands-on experience while helping local taxpayers find the best way to resolve these tax issues. Eric Austin, Administrative Director of the USD Legal Clinics, can share how the Federal Tax Clinic works and how they help low-income taxpayers. The Federal Tax Clinic is one of twelve direct client services legal clinics at USD that provide free or low cost legal support to the community.

Happening on Saturday: USD is the Presenting Sponsor of the 38th Annual Linda Vista Multicultural Fair and Parade

USD is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of the 38th Annual Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair and Parade this Saturday, April 29. The Mulvaney Center along with other campus partners such as the USD Legal Clinics, the Hahn School of Nursing and our student athletes will be in attendance this year connecting with our community. Everyone is invited to enjoy cultural exhibits, food and performances at this free event from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. between Comstock and Ulric streets. Dean Kimberly White-Smith from School of Leadership and Education Sciences will speak at the Opening Ceremony beginning at noon.
