The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education Hosts Free STEAM Workshops for Kids

The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education at USD is offering free, hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) learning experiences for children and families this summer. This week, approximately 100 registered kids are attending Visuospatial Mathematical Opportunities Summer Adventure. Through paper engineering and origami, students explore mathematics, strengthen visuospatial reasoning, build confidence, and discover the joy of problem solving. On Saturday, they will host the 10th Annual STEAM Youth & Community Conference. The free event is open to the public and welcomes families for a full day of interactive STEAM workshops, games, demonstrations, and presentations in both English and Spanish.*RSVP to press@sandiego.edu if you're interested in either of these events.

Supreme Court Ruling's Impact on Future Lawsuits Related to Cancer Risk Warnings

Recently, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bayer, the maker of Roundup weedkiller, which could block future lawsuits that allege companies failed to warn people their product could cause cancer. Sarah Federman, associate professor of Conflict Resolution and author of Corporate Reckoning: How Businesses Address Historical Wrongs, can discuss what this decision means for consumers and can share her expertise in corporate reckoning, related to this case.

USD Opens Pools to Community for Summer Aquatics Programs
|
With a heat wave rolling through San Diego, USD's pool can be a space for the local community to cool down this summer. The summer aquatics programming is designed for swimmers of all ages and experience levels to build confidence in the water while learning from trained instructors in our collegiate wellness facilities. Programs include youth swim lessons (beginner to advanced), adult swim instruction and family recreational swim opportunities from Friday to Sunday. Community members can register for swim lessons, buy day passes and reserve pool parties through our website.

At the Edge of It All: Insight on the World Cup Matches from USD's Soccer Head Coach

After spending decades playing soccer, including on the U.S. National Team, and coaching for the MLS and collegiately, Brian Quinn has a keen eye for what we're seeing on soccer's big stage at the FIFA World Cup games. Quinn, the head coach of USD's men's soccer team, joined the "At the Edge of it All" team to share what he looks for when watching the FIFA World Cup matches and what country he thinks could take home the trophy. Quinn also talked about the upcoming soccer season at USD and how he is building an all-star team.
