Welcome First-Year Students!

Dear {{Preferred Name}},

We look forward to welcoming you to campus in person in just a couple of weeks. Please see below for additional information and updates to assist you in preparing for Orientation and your first semester as a 1L. As a reminder, Orientation will take place in person August 17-19, 2021. Please be advised that the University is requiring face coverings indoors for everyone effective, Monday, August 2 until further notice.

Orientation Website

Take some time to review the updated Orientation website. On the website you will find a detailed Orientation schedule, including suggested attire (note: business attire on Tuesday, August 17) and what to bring, along with a list of all previously sent Orientation communications for your review. You may also notice on the Orientation schedule, the optional identity-based breakout sessions taking place on Tuesday, August 17. If you are interested in attending one or more of these sessions, please fill out the interest form here

Section Assignment and Class Schedule

Your section assignment and instructions on how to access your class schedule will be sent to your USD email address on Tuesday, August 10. This will allow plenty of time for you to order/rent textbooks online or from the USD Torero Store. Once you know your section and subsections, you can access your Orientation materials from the USD Blackboard website.

USD Blackboard Website

All students who have claimed their USDOne account have access to the USD Blackboard website. Blackboard is regularly updated with important self-paced orientation content and Orientation week materials. We encourage you to check the “JD Orientation 2021” folder often for updates. We suggest you start by reviewing the “1L Checklist” for important deadlines and “to-do” items in preparation for Orientation and your 1L Year. Directions on how to use Blackboard can be found online

Lockers

As an incoming student, you have priority locker registration. If you would like a locker for the 2021-22 academic year, you may register online. Please be sure to review the instructions and locker layout and location information on the registration page prior to registering for a locker. You must provide your own lock and may begin using your locker on Monday, August 16, 2021. You are expected to vacate your selected locker at the end of the academic year (by Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 5 p.m.). After this date, locks will be removed and any remaining items will be disposed of or donated. The priority registration deadline is Sunday, August 8 at 11:59 p.m. At that time, locker registration will be open to upper-division law students.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement and Student Health Requirements

If you already have complied with the vaccination requirements, thank you! If you have not yet done so, this is an urgent reminder for you to comply with the University of San Diego’s vaccination requirement for COVID-19 before Interim Suspensions are issued to non-compliant students. Per the most recent communication to you, students who fail to comply with the vaccination requirement will be placed on Interim Suspension until they are in full compliance with the vaccination requirement. An Interim Suspension is imposed to ensure the safety or well-being of any member of the community. In this case, it is to protect the community from being infected with COVID-19. Students who have not complied with the vaccination requirement by the end of the add/drop period on September 3 will be dropped from classes and will not be billed for the fall semester.

If you have been fully or partially vaccinated, please upload a picture of your vaccination record/card to your MyWellness Portal for the Student Health Center (SHC) to review now.  If you have not been vaccinated, please get vaccinated as soon as possible so that you are fully protected for the fall semester.  Please visit Vaccines.gov to identify a location to obtain your vaccine.

For those seeking an exemption from the vaccination requirement for medical or religious reasons, please visit the Student Health Center website and select the form you will need to download and complete.  Those who are not vaccinated, regardless of an exemption, will be required to participate in weekly testing to ensure the safety of the community from COVID-19.

Please also be sure to review the previously sent communication regarding all other student health requirements including additional immunization requirements and student health insurance.

Accommodations

If you are a student with a documented disability who is considering requesting accommodations, please contact the Disability and Learning Difference Resource Center (DLDRC) as soon as possible. Accommodations cannot be applied retroactively so we encourage students to work with the DLDRC before the semester begins. They can be reached at disabilityservices@sandiego.edu or (619) 260-4655.
