COVID-19 Action Team

Last week, due of the efforts of our entire USD community with face coverings, vaccines and testing, we were able to return to on-campus instruction. By delaying the return to in-person classes, USD avoided the most infectious period of the Omicron surge.

Beginning Wednesday, February 16, the State of California will lift its indoor mask mandate for fully vaccinated persons. However, USD’s protocols on face coverings will continue to remain in place. This means that face coverings are still required in all indoor settings while on campus for all students, staff, faculty and visitors.

While the campus positivity rate for COVID-19 is below 3 percent, it is currently more than twice as high as it was at this point in the fall semester. San Diego County positivity rates, while declining, are still higher than they were in the fall. Maintaining the indoor face-covering requirements beyond February 16 may help us drive rates down even further. We will also continue the random COVID-19 testing for the entire campus community regardless of vaccination status.

We are grateful for your patience and resilience throughout these highly challenging circumstances. We will continue to reevaluate the current conditions and adjust our protocols accordingly.
