Parasocial Relationships with Celebrities

Bradley Bond, associate professor of communication studies, researches parasocial relationships and why people feel such strong connections to celebrities. He also studies how those connections can manifest into the perception that these individuals are part of our social network, thereby altering not only our attitudes and feelings toward these individuals, but our behaviors. One recent example of this was the involvement of Britney Spears’ fans in the #FreeBritney movement and the impact her fans had on her conservatorship case.
