Michael Terry, DNP, FNP, PMHNP, clinical professor of nursing, can explain why mental health issues would be considered high-risk for COVID-19 and other ways mental health impacts us physically.

Leaders to Discuss Future of Cyber Security Law and Risk at USD
|
Cyber security professionals (such as, FBI, Google Cloud) are meeting at the University of San Diego on Thursday to discuss a range of cyber security topics from cyber insurance to the sophistication of the dark web. In response to persistent cyber attacks, the symposium will bring cyber professionals together to educate decision-makers and share information. Mark Castellano, manager of engineering and tech comm engagement at USD, can discuss the latest cyber security topics being discussed and what businesses/consumers should consider when it comes to cyber security protection.

COP26 of the UN Climate Change Convention Continues – What is California's Role?
|
World leaders are meeting in Glasgow through November 12 for the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) of the UN Climate Change Convention. The meeting comes in the wake of an associated Emissions Gap Report 2021 which shows new national climate action promises, combined with other mitigation measures, such as those planned by local jurisdictions, put the world on track for a global temperature rise of 2.7°C by the end of the century-- significantly above the agreed rise of less than 2°C. A representative from the Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC) at USD can provide insight on the Convention, how California, from Governor Newsom to San Diego’s mayor, plays a part in the discussions, and what additional climate action and progress we can expect from these meetings.

The Nonprofit Institute Report
|
The Nonprofit Institute at USD released the latest data from the 2021 State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy report, which tracks the health and vitality of our region’s nonprofit sector and philanthropy that supports it. The 2021 report highlights how nonprofits, their leaders, and constituents are responding to the ongoing disruption wrought by nearly two years of COVID-19. Some of the key takeaways from this year include: 61% of nonprofits surveyed reported demand for their services have increased and 2/3 of San Diego nonprofits said they fared better than originally expected at the start of the pandemic.
