November is National Career Development Month

According to a recent Bankrate survey, as of August, 55% of workers are likely to search for a new job in the next year. During National Career Development Month, Dee Kayalar, ACC-ICF, Assistant Director of Alumni Career Engagement at the Career Development Center at USD, can share tips and insight on the current economic outlook for job seekers and how workers can stay relevant and competitive in the job market.

FDA Sets Guidelines for Medical Devices That Use Artificial Intelligence
|
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, along with a few international health groups, have identified 10 guiding principles to promote “safe, effective and high-quality medical devices that use artificial intelligence and machine learning.” Dr. Ramesh Rajagopalan, professor of practice in Electrical Engineering and Program Director of Applied Artificial Intelligence, can share the importance of the FDA setting these guidelines and how AI technology can be developed to positively impact medical devices.

USD Student Writes Children’s Book to Teach Kids About STEM
|
Taylor Brown, an Industrial and Systems Engineering senior, published a children’s book called “What Do You Know About...STEM!” The alphabet-style book teaches kids about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Brown hopes to inspire kids to think about STEM at an early age while making STEM accessible and fun. Along with publishing this book, Brown is the Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers at USD and spent the summer in Sweden working on health-related research.

Fowler Business Concept Challenge
|
Team EcoBreeze and their idea for a low-cost air conditioning alternative won the $15,000 scholarship grand prize at the Fowler Business Concept Challenge on Friday. The team included three Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering students and one School of Business student. As part of the challenge, entrepreneurial students pitched their business concepts in front of top business leaders in San Diego.
