As of January 1, the minimum wage in San Diego has increased to $15. How will this impact local workers, the San Diego economy and consumers? Economics professor, Alan Gin, can help to answer these questions, share insight on the current labor market and provide perspective on how the pandemic already forced many employers to raise hourly rates to stay competitive in the job market.

U.S./Mexico Bicentennial Framework for Security

Talks on the U.S./Mexico Bicentennial Framework for Security, Public Health and Safe Communities are well underway. The framework aims to protect people, prevent transborder crime and pursue criminal networks on both sides of the border. USD political science and international relations professor David Shirk, Ph.D. is available to discuss how this new framework differs from the Merida Initiative that it replaces and how the new talks will change the future of the binational relationship.

Virtual Winter Classes Offered for Adults 55 Years+ Through USD Program, Starting January 10
|
USD is hosting virtual winter workshops and seminars for local residents 55 years and older in the U3A program (University of Third Age) -- the longest-running community outreach program on campus. These “life-long learners” explore a new topic each day from a diverse speaker lineup during the 4-day course. Upcoming topics from January to March sessions include: Get the Care You Are Entitled To While Preserving Family Assets, Mental Health Impacts of the Pandemic and The Nature of Poetry, amongst other topics.
