U.S. Inflation Highest in 40 Years– Impact on Consumers
|
According to the Labor Department, consumer prices jumped 7.5% last month compared with a year earlier, the steepest year-over-year increase since February 1982. Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said three weeks ago it would likely raise its short-term rate multiple times this year to cool inflation. Dan Roccato, clinical professor of finance, can explain how higher interest rates might eventually reduce inflation, but why that may not be the best for lower income and middle income consumers.

A Conversation on Ukraine with Ambassador William B. Taylor

The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ) at the University of San Diego is hosting a virtual conversation on Friday with Ambassador William B. Taylor, former United States Ambassador to Ukraine. Ambassador Taylor will discuss the dynamics of the Ukraine crisis, if war can be averted while defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence, and what the United States should and should not do in order to help successfully resolve the crisis. National Entrepreneurship Week is February 12-19
|
Small businesses make up nearly all of San Diego's local businesses (98%), according to a 2019 report by the San Diego Regional EDC. The pandemic also had an effect on how entrepreneurs operate today. During National Entrepreneurship Week, Rachel Lozano Castro, director of The Brink Small Business Development Center at USD, can share how The Brink is helping small business owners with free & affordable resources, new opportunities for small businesses to take advantage of in 2022 and how the entrepreneurship landscape has changed during the pandemic.

Marie Watt: A Conversation with the Artist
|
The University of San Diego, in partnership with Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation in Portland, Oregon, is proud to present a major, traveling retrospective — Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt Selections from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation — the newest exhibition at the University Galleries. Marie Watt has produced monumental sculpture, compelling textiles, and socially-engaged prints for almost 30 years, showcasing deep reverence for indigenous narratives, especially those informed by her own Seneca heritage. A conversation with artist Marie Watt will take place at 5 p.m. on February 16, in the French Parlor in Founders Hall. Please RSVP if you are interested in attending.
