This can remove levels of accountability and also raises the specter of total control over areas like the economy, media and, in this most recent case, sovereign nations like Ukraine. Rachel Locke, director of the Violence, Inequality and Power Lab (VIP Lab) at USD, can provide insight on how Russia's use of power inequality has been a longtime strategy by its leaders and is playing a role in the situation in Ukraine.

California Energy Commission Releases New Data, Finds California Ahead of Clean Electricity Goals

The California Energy Commission (CEC) released new data which found that nearly 60% of California's electricity "came from renewable and zero-carbon sources in 2020." Scott Anders, director of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC) at USD, can discuss what this report means for the San Diego region, overall electric prices and reliability, how the report will impact local climate action planning efforts, and the role of rooftop solar, given potential reforms to how rooftop solar is compensated.
