The Federal Reserve raised their rates last week but, looking ahead, what impact will this have on consumers and their finances? Dan Roccato, clinical professor of finance, can discuss how increasing the price of money will lower inflation and why this rate hike will ripple through the economy as consumers pay more for their loans.

Mental Health Awareness Month Idea: Shortage of Mental Health Care Providers |
Pre-pandemic, approximately 1 in 6 U.S. children ages 6 to 17 had been diagnosed with a treatable mental health disorder, and the additional stress of the COVID-19 crisis has resulted in a surge of anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. Despite this increase, mental health services sharply declined among individuals 18 years and younger. To help support that need, USD’s Tele-mental Health Training Clinic is shifting towards serving more children, adolescents and young adults. Carrie Tremble, clinical director of USD’s Tele-mental Health Training Clinic and professor of practice, can provide insight into the national shortage and offer tips to help people deal with feelings of anxiety and depression.

The Push for Passwordless Sign-In Standards -- How Will This Impact our Cyber Security? |
Apple, Google and Microsoft announced plans to "expand support for a common passwordless sign-in standard," according to FIDO Alliance. Without using passwords to log in to our emails and bank accounts, what could the future look like for logging in to our accounts and could this help to prevent future cyber hacks? Michelle Moore, director of the Graduate Cyber Security Operations & Leadership and professor of practice, can discuss what this will mean for internet users, how this will impact cybersecurity and why we might be seeing a push for an end to passwords.

Miguel Hornedo, a senior psychology major and assistant at the USD Commuter Commons, has been named President for a Day and will switch places with USD President James T. Harris III on Tuesday, May 10. As a commuter student, Hornedo understands the challenges that face students who do not have a dedicated living and learning space available to them on campus. He also is committed to cultivating sustaining relationships with the communities that surround the USD campus. Hornedo also chose the San Diego Hunger Coalition to receive a $1,000 donation on his behalf as part of the President for a Day program.
