Could Imperial Beach and Coronado Beaches be Closed for Most of Summer?

According to recent news, a rollout of a new DNA-based water-quality testing system coupled with a Tijuana sewage treatment plant that's dumping as much as 35 million gallons of raw sewage a day into the ocean could keep Imperial Beach and Coronado beaches closed for most of the Summer. The Non-Profit Institute at USD has a Quality of Life Dashboard which measures and benchmarks several environmental and economic trends throughout the region -- including Beach and Coastal Health. Michel Boudrias, associate professor of environmental and ocean sciences, is available to speak on the current beach closures, as well as how the sewage coming from Tijuana is impacting our local sea life.

The Impact of Inflation + Money Stressors on Our Mental Health

A recent study from the American Psychological Association found one of the top sources of stress in early 2022 is the rise in prices due to inflation. In addition, the report found stress about money is the highest it has been since 2015. With the recent increase in interest rates, the stock market going up and down and high prices for everyday items, how do these everyday stressors about money impact our mental health? Carrie Tremble, Clinical Director of USD’s Tele-mental Health Training Clinic and professor of practice, can answer this question and also provide tips for people to reduce their money-related anxiety.
