Biden Administration Gives Nearly $3 Billion to NOAA for Coastal + Climate Resilience Funding: What Will This Mean for Our Beaches?

Just last week, the Biden Administration announced nearly $3 billion in new funding to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) over the next five years to "address the climate crisis and strengthen coastal resilience and infrastructure." Darbi Berry, director of The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative, can discuss what this funding will mean for U.S. beaches, the importance of coastal resilience due to climate change impacts and how this funding could benefit us locally in San Diego.

Looking Ahead: How will the July 1 Gas Tax Impact Drivers and Gas Prices in the Near Future?

A scheduled gas tax increased the price of gas even further on July 1. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics, can share background on the gas tax, how this impacts the local economy and what drivers can expect for gas prices looking ahead. 

Will the Recently Signed Gun Legislature Have an Impact on Gun Violence? An Armed Violence Researcher Weighs In

Topher McDougal, associate professor of economic development, studies microeconomic causes and consequences of armed violence and disasters and illicit firearms trading. McDougal also recently co-authored a study looking at the U.S. firearms market. McDougal can discuss how the recently signed gun legislation compares to current research on gun control, such as the use of red flag laws in some states. He can also discuss how and why this bill could create the foundation of bipartisan legislation that can be built upon.

University of San Diego Board Welcomes Three New Trustees

 

The University of San Diego announced three new members to its Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2022: Jacqueline Dupont Carlson ‘89 (BS), Sister Suzanne Cooke and Timothy Scott '96 (JD). 

 

Jacqueline Dupont Carlson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dupont Residential Care, Inc., Assured In Home Care, Inc., former owner of Vista Gardens, LLC, and former owner of Assured Horizons, LLC, senior living.

 

Sister Suzanne Cooke, RSCJ is currently the Provincial of the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada Province.

 

Timothy Scott is the President and CEO of DisperSol Technologies, a technology company enhancing the pharmacokinetics of critical medicines.
