July 12, 2022

Free Program to Help Businesses Solve an Organizational Challenge

The Ahlers Center for International Business at USD is now accepting applications for The Move Forward program– an opportunity for a San Diego County or Tijuana business to partner with a Knauss School of Business faculty member to solve a current organizational challenge for their business. Last year, the Ahlers Center selected the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce as the first client of the program and faculty compiled a report that provided an in-depth analysis of the CaliBaja regional economy. Lauren Lukens, executive director of the Ahlers Center, is available to provide more information on the program. The deadline to apply is July 14, 2022.

Summer Deals Begin: Are They Worth It for Consumers This Year During High Inflation?

Summer deals are rolling in this week with Amazon Prime Days happening between July 12-13. Target is hosting its own Deal Days during the same time from July 11-13. And, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public on July 15. Dan Roccato, clinical professor of finance, can discuss whether these summer deals are worth it for consumers as inflation has increased prices on everyday items. Roccato can also share why companies compete for consumers during the same week and discuss whether these might be the last big sales we see before the holiday shopping season begins.

Looking Ahead: What is the Impact of the EPA Supreme Court Decision on Climate Change Solutions?

The recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) limited the authority of the EPA to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from new and existing power plants. Joe Kaatz, staff attorney at the Energy Policy Initiatives Center at USD's School of Law, can discuss how this ruling will impact the future of clean energy, what the EPA may do next to regulate new/existing power plants and how this ruling will affect California climate change initiatives.

STEAM Team Academy

The STEAM Team Summer Academy

The STEAM Team Summer Academy, hosted by the University of San Diego, wraps up this week. It is a two-week long quality educational experience for about 80 local middle and high school students to engage in hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

This program was made possible thanks to grant support from The San Diego Foundation Level Up program, in partnership with San Diego Unified School District. The University of San Diego also supports the program through strategic initiative funding.
