Cybersecurity Leaders Gather at USD to Discuss the Latest in Cybersecurity Trends and Threats

Cybersecurity professionals, including Jim Halpert, General Counsel of the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, will join together at USD's annual Cyber Law & Risk Symposium on Thursday, November 3 to discuss a range of cybersecurity topics from emerging cyber laws and legal trends to building a defensible security program. Mark Castellano, manager of engineering and tech comm engagement at USD, can discuss the latest cybersecurity topics being discussed, why USD hosts this event each year and how symposiums like these can bring thought leaders together to build stronger protections against cybersecurity threats.

Supply Chain Improvements at California Ports and Other Potential Supply Chain Problems on the Horizon
|
Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, recently commented on a Wall Street Journal article stating, "There’s more work to do, but this is extraordinary progress for our supply chains"-- after seeing the article's data on supply chain improvements at California ports. Simon Croom, professor of supply chain management, can discuss how the "return to normal" at California ports can impact future costs and could also create misalignment and disruptions across the supply chain. Joel Sutherland, professor of practice in supply chain management, can provide insight on how a potential rail strike and a traffic backup on the Mississippi River, due to low water levels, could potentially impact other areas of the supply chain in the near future.

USD's School of Leadership and Education Sciences Launches College Access Initiative for Black Students in the San Diego Region
|
The School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) at USD has received $1.5 million from the San Diego Foundation to develop and launch the Black InGenius Initiative (BiGI)-- a college access and early literacy program for Black students within the San Diego region. Sixty rising sixth graders and their families will be selected for BiGI every year starting in fall 2023. USD will provide family wellness workshops and supplement students' academics with consistent Summer and Saturday Academy experiences delivered by SOLES faculty and students trained to support neurodivergent and dyslexic learners. Kimberly White-Smith, EdD, Dean of SOLES, is available to speak about BiGI, why this initiative is important, and why SOLES is dedicated to college access for underrepresented communities.
