USD Researchers Survey Local Elected Officials to Study Threats and Harassments Against Them
|
Researchers at the Violence, Inequality and Power Lab (VIP Lab) and Institute for Civil Civic Engagement at the University of San Diego have sent out surveys to elected officials in San Diego County-- from city council members to school board members-- to help them create what they believe is the first attempt to fully aggregate threats and harassment towards nearly all elected officials across San Diego County. With a recent survey finding that 34% of people think it is justified for citizens to take violent action against the government, the researchers are hoping to get real data on the kinds of threats and harassment that local elected officials may be experiencing in their daily lives. Rachel Locke, director of the VIP Lab, can discuss what this research will look like in the months ahead and what her team is hoping to do with the results.
