The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego just announced the 2023 winners of the prestigious Kaleidoscope Award for Good Governance. For the past 16 years, this award has recognized, celebrated and promoted effective, engaged board leadership in the San Diego region's nonprofit sector. Emily Young, Executive Director of The Nonprofit Institute, is available to speak about why these nonprofits were chosen and the state of nonprofits in San Diego.

ACLU: Government Program Sweeps Up Millions of People’s Financial Records

The ACLU recently published hundreds of documents related to a program run by state and federal agencies in Arizona, wherein they would allegedly collect data on money transfers as low as $500 going in and out of the state. The ACLU says the program collected data on millions of people, including Californians. Maritza Johnson, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Civil Society at the University of San Diego, can discuss the ACLU’s findings and the data privacy concerns they raise.

Tax Season Opened for Individual Filers on Jan. 23

The IRS started accepting 2022 tax returns for individual filers on January 23. Miranda Perry Fleischer, Professor of Law and Co-Director of Graduate Tax Programs, can share tips for filing taxes this year and the benefits of filing early.
