Growing Interest in Careers that Impact the Community
Putting people over profit is becoming more than just a catchphrase for the next generation entering the workforce. A 2022 report from the National Society of High School Scholars showed those surveyed ranked corporate social responsibility above location in terms of importance for their job search. In line with that trend, USD will be hosting a Social Impact Career Fair March 23, connecting dozens of local employers with students looking for jobs that will have an impact on their community. Matt Yepez, Senior Director of the USD Career Development Center, can discuss the fair, this growing trend, and tips for people looking to pursue a career path in the space of social impact. And you can RSVP with press@sandiego.edu if you’d like to attend the career fair.

Tackling Housing Demands in Unincorporated San Diego
2021 marked the beginning of the county’s sixth housing element cycle — an eight year timeframe to add enough housing to meet the demand of the region, and meet state requirements. Less than halfway through that timeframe the county is more than halfway past its goal in unincorporated San Diego, according to a recent update. These areas of the county present their own challenges when it comes to creating housing for all income levels, as noted in a recent assessment. Jeremy Gabe, associate professor of real estate, can talk about some of those obstacles — in particular why it can be more difficult to build low-income housing in these areas — and how it all impacts the region’s construction goals.
