Teen Innovation Challenge
|
Winners have been announced for the 2023 Teen Innovation Challenge, a program run by The Jacobs Institute for Innovations in Education at USD. Students and educators from around the world who participated in the 4th annual challenge worked together to build a better world by creating innovative solutions to local and global problems. The winning project was created by three eighth-grade students from Mt. Everest Academy in San Diego. The students, with the support of educator Eric Nielsen, created a product called FIREfly, a practical and safe cooking device that minimizes household smoke pollution. As part of the prize, a $1,000 donation was made to a charity of their choice, in this case Doctors without Borders. Eric Nielsen and his students as well as Jessica Husson from the Jacobs Institute can be made available to speak about this incredible opportunity.
