‘Great Resignation’ Resurgence?

A new PwC survey of 54,000 workers found more employees are looking to leave their jobs for something else – 26% this year, up from 19% last year. The survey points to a number of factors, but inflation and an unfavorable economy could be pushing people to explore their options. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics, can talk about that, and explain how this trend could impact the workforce and the economy, amid fears of a recession.

The National Report Card Shows Continuous Drop in Math and Reading Scores Post-Pandemic

Recently released data from the National Report Card shows a steep decline in math and reading test scores among teens. The assessments were administered from October to December of last year to 8,700 students across the country. In the national sample of 13-year-old students the math scores fell by 9 points between 2020 and 2023, while reading scores fell by 4 points during this same time. Kimberly White-Smith, Ph.D, Dean of the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, can discuss the possible reasons behind the drop in test scores, she can also talk about those most affected in our schools.

High School Students Get Hands-On Cybersecurity Training at USD Summer Camp

More than two dozen high school students from San Diego County are at USD this week for CyberPrep, a week-long cybersecurity training program that will teach students about the technical aspects of cybersecurity while giving them a look at what a career in cybersecurity would look like. At the end of the 5-day camp, the students will build their own home security system with their newly acquired skills. Mark Castellano, manager of engineering and tech comm engagement at USD, can discuss why CyberPrep was created (in its 4th year at USD), what students will learn during the camp and why cybersecurity jobs are in demand. News crews can visit the camp for b-roll and interview students and/or Mark Castellano. *The camp is not free (costs $525 to attend) but some students received a grant to attend.
