Report Details Extent of Threats and Harassment of Elected Officials

This Wednesday, the Violence, Inequality, and Power Lab and the Institute for Civil Civic Engagement will release a complete report of their investigation into threats against and harassment of elected officials in San Diego County. The research quantifies the scope of the problem and its impact. Rachel Locke, director of the VIP Lab, and Carl Luna, director of the ICCE, can talk about the findings, what they learned from the data and discussions with officials, and how this behavior could have a lasting impact on democracy and civic engagement in San Diego.

The Court Battles that Defined Barbie
|
The 'Barbie' movie has dominated at the box office, topping a billion dollars globally. Orly Lobel, Warren Distinguished Professor of Law, has deeply researched the history of Barbie which was the spotlight of her book, 'You Don’t Own Me: The Court Battles that Exposed Barbie’s Dark Side.' Lobel is available to speak about her book, as well as her research into female images and how cultural icons are marketed.

USD Professors Design Art Installation for Burning Man
|
Later this month, a group of USD professors will pack up a huge dodecahedron-shaped structure and take it to Burning Man. The art installation, called Unfolding Humanity, is based on a math problem that remained unsolved for hundreds of years, and was conceived of and built by a group of USD students and faculty with a wide range of expertise — including math, engineering, theatre and sociology professors. Dr. Diane Hoffoss, professor of mathematics, is one of the faculty members leading the project, and can talk more about her experience and what the installation represents. Knauss School of Business MBA Receives STEM Designation
|
USD’s Knauss School of Business has just received official STEM designation for three of its MBA concentrations: business analytics, finance and supply chain management. A STEM-designated MBA is an MBA program containing coursework with a high level of analytical content and rigor. STEM MBA graduates are prepared to manage data and utilize analytical models to make informed decisions about finance, marketing, operations, supply chain, staffing and strategy. A STEM MBA primarily benefits international students who want to remain in the United States to work after graduating. *Interviews available
