Governor Signs Non-Compete Bill that was Drafted by USD Law Professor

This month, Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 699, which supports current state law that voids contracts that restrain an employee from engaging in a lawful profession, trade, or business of any kind. Orly Lobel, Warren Distinguished Professor of Law, led the drafting of the bill based on her decade of research on the harms of noncompetes. Lobel is available to speak about this bill, as well as what it means for both employers and employees.

How Overseas Regulators are Impacting American Products

Today, Apple will unveil its next iPhone, and one of the biggest takeaways from today's event is expected to be how the company will ditch its proprietary lightning charging port for the universal USB-C connector. While it might seem like a minor change, it represents a growing trend -- the European Union regulating American tech companies. The E.U. ruled that all smartphone makers must adopt USB-C by the end of next year, forcing Apple's hand. Justine Rapp Farrell, professor of marketing, can talk about this change and others like it, and how decisions from international regulators are impacting American consumers.

As the Fall season approaches, it's a good reminder that now is the time to start planning your annual flu shot. But that's not the only thing that should be top of mind. COVID cases have been increasing recently, and the FDA just approved a new COVID vaccine. Associate professor at USD's Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, Dr. Razel Milo, can talk about the upcoming flu season and rising COVID cases, why it's important to get vaccinated regularly, and how to plan your shots this Fall.
