State Looks to San Diego to Expand Fight Against Fentanyl

The State Department of Justice recently announced plans to join a federal task force in San Diego that's focused on combating the trafficking of fentanyl. State Attorney General Rob Bonta called the San Diego task force a potential model for other counties, and identified our region as an area of focus in the push against fentanyl traffickers. Cid Martinez, associate professor of sociology, has spent years researching law enforcement. He can talk about how this type of cooperation between agencies and levels of government is becoming more and more prevalent and why, and about how this could impact the fight against drug traffickers.

Connecting Kids in the Community with Free Educational Activities

USD's Turning Wheel Mobile Classroom Project, in conjunction with the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center and USD's Mulvaney Center, has launched a new initiative with the objective of making connections for kids with fun and free educational activities. The Turning Wheel Mobile Classroom Project is housed within USD's Department of Ethnic Studies -- which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Alberto Pulido, chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies, is available to talk about the free events and the great work the Ethnic Studies Department and its students are doing in the community.

San Diego is the Most Expensive City to Live in the U.S.

U.S. News & World Report ranked San Diego as the #1 most expensive place to live in the country. San Diego’s home prices were one factor that pushed San Diego into the top spot. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics, is available to discuss the report and how home prices, gas prices, and inflation are all contributing to the rising cost of living in our region.
