The Nonprofit Institute at USD recently released its 2023 State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report. The report shows 83% of San Diegans reported having benefitted from services provided by nonprofits in the past 12 months. According to the report, our region benefits in innumerable ways from the work of our nonprofit community and it is important for all San Diegans to come together in supporting and strengthening the nonprofit sector. Tessa Tinkler, Director of Research at The Nonprofit Institute, can talk about ways people can give back to their local nonprofits. She can also talk about the report’s findings and the vital roles nonprofits play in our communities.

Consumer Spending Trends for the Holidays

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, a recent survey shared new insights on consumer shopping trends this year. The survey found that consumers are looking for better prices and promotions when shopping and many people, including Gen Z, don't plan to splurge this year, compared to last year. Farhana Nusrat, assistant professor of marketing, studies consumer behavior and can discuss insights of the survey, including the trend of consumers staggering their holiday shopping over a few months, splurging vs. saving on gifts and generational differences in holiday shopping.
