Cardinal McElroy to Receive USD’s Laudato Si’ Award at National Conference

2024 marks 75 years since the founding of the University of San Diego. As we celebrate this historic milestone, USD will also be looking at its role in shaping the future ahead. USD is kicking off a year-long celebration with the Lighting the Way Forward conference, which runs on campus from Jan. 11-13. The event will bring together educators and thought leaders from across the country, to discuss the future and impact of Catholic Higher Education in this country. Cardinal Robert McElroy will be the conference’s keynote speaker Thursday, and will also be presented with USD’s Ladauto Si’ award, recognizing his efforts to promote environmental stewardship and community service. Please contact press@sandiego.edu if you’re interested in covering the event.

The Nonprofit Institute at USD Partners with the County's Office of Equity and Racial Justice to Launch Community-Driven Initiative to Address Inequity

The County of San Diego's Office of Equity and Racial Justice is piloting a new Equity Impact Grant program in partnership with The Nonprofit Institute (NPI) at USD that will invest $2 million over two years into community-driven organizations/initiatives that address inequity. Each cohort year this program will support 10 San Diego-based social impact organizations/initiatives with $100,000 in general operating grants plus tailored support resources. Dr. Novien Yarber, director of Leadership, Philanthropy & Social Impact at NPI, can talk about the importance of this program, as well as the workshops, coaching and resources NPI will provide to the selected organizations/initiatives. Applications for the program are now open and will close January 26.

Finding a New Job in 2024

The New Year brings with it new opportunities. While hiring across many industries slows during the holidays, January could be a good time to kickstart a job search, whether you’re unemployed or looking to change careers. Matt Yepez, senior director of USD’s Career Development Center, can talk about why January’s a favorable time for job seekers, and give some tips for those sending in an application or walking into an interview.
