Oscar Nominations Announced
|
The nominees in all 23 award categories were announced this morning. Eligible voters from a record 93 countries submitted ballots in the Academy Awards’ nominating round. Eric Pierson, professor of communication studies, can speak about the nominations, as well as how the strong international showing of voters may have played a role in the films that were nominated.

Changes to the FAFSA May Cause Confusion Among Families Applying for College

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as FAFSA, is making significant changes to its application that will affect families applying for college and financial aid this year. Changes will affect how income is reported as well as how family members participating in the process have to register to even fill out the form. Kellie Nehring, Director of Financial Aid at USD is available to share with families in San Diego what they need to know to ensure the financial assistance process does not become overwhelming.

Businesses Getting Creative Amid Inflation Woes

Experts seem to agree that while the U.S. economy may be on its way to dodging a recession, but everyday consumers are still feeling the effects of inflation. Many people are reassessing their budgets and how they spend their disposable income. That, the Wall Street Journal recently reported, is hitting businesses where people used to be spending their nights out, and forcing them to get creative to win back customers. Justine Rapp Farrell is the chair of USD's marketing department. She can talk about the effect inflation is having on businesses, how it may be forcing them to change their strategy, and how that could sweeten the deal for customers.

Justin Brooks, professor of practice at USD, joined “At the Edge of it All” to talk about his storied career fighting for people who have been wrongfully convicted, including his first innocence case to exonerate an innocent woman, which lasted for decades. He discusses what got him into law, how he developed a passion that spawned the founding of the California Innocence Project and why he is focusing his next career chapter on improving the justice system in Latin America.
