NASA Astronaut and USD Alum Matthew Dominick is Part of NASA Mission to the International Space Station This Friday

NASA astronaut and USD Shiley Marcos-School of Engineering alum Matthew Dominick ‘05 will be a part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station on Friday at 12:04 a.m., launching from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Former professors of Matthew Dominick are able to talk about having Dominick as a student and share how exciting it is to see him go to space.

New Bill, Co-Sponsored by USD's Children's Advocacy Institute, Will Protect Foster Youth's Credit From Identity Theft

Assemblymember Brian Maienschein, along with co-sponsors, The Children's Advocacy Institute and Just in Time for Foster Youth, recently unveiled a new bill that will strengthen identity protections for youth in the foster care system. AB 2935, if passed by the legislature and signed into law, would require credit bureaus to place a security freeze on a foster youth's credit report to help prevent any identity theft --- which can create issues for them when they transition out of foster care and begin looking for housing or applying for credit cards. Jessica Heldman with The Children's Advocacy Institute at USD, is available to discuss the new bill and why there was need for this bill to protect the tens of thousands of foster youth in California.

Violence in Mexico and its Impact on the Mexican Economy

Laura Calderón, program director of USD's Justice in Mexico, recently joined the Modern Mexico Podcast to talk about the security issues in Tijuana and how despite the increasing violence in the city, Tijuana has a thriving industrial sector. Calderón is available to talk about this topic as well as the trends she is seeing when it comes to Justice in Mexico’s research on organized crime and violence in Mexico.
