The Battle over California’s Junk Fee Law

SB 478 takes effect on July 1, meaning businesses in California now must include mandatory fees in their initial advertised prices. That means restaurants will be required to include all mandatory fees or charges in the price of a good, that's unless a newly proposed legislation grants them an exception. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics, is available to talk about the impact the so-called “Junk Fee” law will have on restaurants and also what this will also mean for consumers.

What Can We Expect as We Await La Niña?

According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, El Niño has officially ended. Now, La Niña conditions are predicted to take hold over the Pacific Ocean as soon as July. Zhi-Yong Yin, professor of environmental and ocean sciences, can explain how we are currently in a situation described as “ENSO neutral,” meaning neither El Niño nor La Niña is in place and why this may mean an abnormally hot summer for nearly all parts of the country.

Millions of people across the country are believed to be afflicted with PTSD, and many may not know about the treatments that are available that could help improve their lives. June is PTSD awareness month, and aims to connect those with PTSD – whether they're veterans or civilians – with the resources they need to get help. Dr. Katie Lais is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and a professor at USD's Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science. She can talk about how PTSD might affect a wide-range of people, signs someone might be struggling with PTSD, and the resources and treatments available to them to get help.
