10 Billion Passwords Exposed in Largest Hack Ever

According to recent reports, the world’s largest collection of stolen passwords has been uploaded to a notorious underground marketplace where cybercriminals exchange such credentials. It's being called the RockYou2024 leak. Nikolas Behar, professor of cyber security, can talk about whether the average consumer needs to be concerned and tips to protect your personal information online.

USD and NHI to Host Bilingual Debate Competition for High School Students from the U.S. and Mexico

This week, the National Hispanic Institute will be holding its California Sol Great Debate at the University of San Diego. The six-day event is a communications and leadership development program for high school students from across the U.S. and Mexico. Students will form teams and work together to participate in a debate tournament – discussing their ideas in a diverse bilingual setting – competing to become the Great Debate Champions. USD Professor Receives Grant to Research Artificial Intelligence and Its Use in Predicting and Preventing Disease

Mark Chapman, assistant professor of integrated engineering, just received an NSF grant to help further research on developing advanced AI and data science tools aimed at understanding, predicting and preventing disease. This grant will fund eight undergraduate students per year over three years from institutions in the U.S., including USD, to conduct 10 weeks of research in Stockholm, Sweden. Professor Chapman is available to speak about the research that he and his students will be doing, as well as its importance in society today.

New Dean at the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies

 

USD would like to welcome Darren Kew, who this month officially began his role as dean of the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies. Kew brings a wealth of experience, and has worked as an advisor on democracy and peace initiatives with the United Nations and U.S. State Department, among others. Kew says he’s excited to start working with the Kroc School’s faculty, staff and students.
