This weekend, thousands will be moving into USD residence halls as we welcome back students for the 2024-25 academic year. USD has an incoming class of more than 1,400 first-year and transfer students this Fall. Saturday, 2,600 students altogether will be moving into USD housing, kicking off Olé Weekend, a campus-wide celebration ahead of the start of the school year. Many Recruiters Admit to Posting “Ghost Jobs”

A recent MyPerfectResume report reveals that more than 80% of recruiters admit to posting "ghost jobs"— positions that either don’t exist or are already filled. Reasons include maintaining a job board presence, testing job description effectiveness, building future talent pools, and gaining market insights. Matt Yepez, senior director of USD’s Career Development Center, can provide advice on the best ways to seek out legitimate jobs and how to stand out to employers.

Identity Theft of Children on the Rise

Federal Trade Commission data reveals 3% of identity theft reports in the first half of 2024 involve people under the age of 19. This marks an increase from the 2% reported annually between 2021 and 2023. Nikolas Behar, cybersecurity professor at USD, is available to discuss the rising trend of identity theft among children and offer advice on how parents can safeguard their children’s personal information.
