USD 9/11 Remembrance Event and Prayer for Peace

The University of San Diego will observe the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on Wednesday, September 11 from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. at USD’s Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies Theatre. The USD community will come together for its annual remembrance of the 9/11 attacks – while three representatives from different faith traditions will offer prayers for peace. USD’s NROTC color guard will also perform a color guard ceremony before playing Taps. Please RSVP to press@sandiego.edu if you plan to attend.

U.S. Surgeon General Issues Advisory on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Parents

The U.S. Surgeon General recently issued an advisory that stresses the need for better support for parents, who report significantly higher stress levels than other adults. High stress in parents negatively impacts their mental health and their children's well-being, increasing risks of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues in children. Lauren Bruaski, director of USD Tele-Mental Health Training Clinic, can speak about this new advisory. She can also provide advice for parents and children to best manage their stress.

USD's Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science Celebrates 50 Years
|
50 years ago this week, the first students stepped into the classroom at USD's Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science (HSON). The original cohort included 14 students. Today, the school enrolls more than 450, and offers wide-ranging master's and doctoral programs that train frontline workers, researchers and healthcare leaders. Dr. Kathy Marsh is the assistant dean of the nursing school. She's available to talk about the evolution of public health since the school's founding and the role its students and faculty play in San Diego's top healthcare systems today.
