New Research: Migrant Deaths in California's Borderlands
|
Marni LaFleur, associate professor of anthropology, has new research that examines the deaths of undocumented migrants in southern California before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, deaths related to falls from the newly constructed and heightened border barrier or “wall” skyrocketed. Also post-pandemic, there was a significant increase in deaths among women. Professor LaFleur is available to speak about her new research and the recommendations she has to help prevent more deaths.

USD Alum Returns to Earth
|
This week, USD alum and NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick will return from a months-long mission aboard the International Space Station. That comes as another USD alumni, Jonny Kim, prepares for his own mission to the ISS in the Spring. Jacob Ramirez is a current engineering student at USD, and this year founded the Torero Space Program on campus. He’s available to talk about Dominick’s return, these exciting missions, and what it means for San Diego students like him, who aspire to one day go to space themselves.

USD Men’s Soccer On the Rise
|
The Toreros are gaining steam and getting some serious national recognition – they’re now ranked No. 9 in D1 Men’s Soccer. They picked up where they left off after a two-week break, netting another win over Santa Clara last week. They’re now 9-1-2 on the year. Saturday, they’ll look to keep rolling when they host Oregon State at Torero Stadium in a battle for first place in the conference. Men’s Soccer players and head coach Brian Quinn are available for interviews this week, and media is invited to attend the game Saturday.

Dr. Niki Elliott, director of the Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity at the University of San Diego, joined the "At the Edge of It All" team to share her passion for supporting the needs and strengths of neurodivergent individuals, and why it's a personal fight for her. Elliott also talks about her new role at the recently created Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity at the University of San Diego, and how the center will equip educators with the tools they need to teach students of all educational backgrounds.
