USD News Connect: Connecting Expert Voices to the Stories Impacting Our Community

November 12, 2024

Good morning newsrooms!

Here's your USD News Connect — where each week the University of San Diego media relations team offers expert voices to speak on stories impacting our community. If you're interested in the stories below, or need experts for any other topic you might be working on, don't hesitate to reach out to us at press@sandiego.edu.*

November is Native American Heritage Month

The University of San Diego’s Office of the Tribal Liaison is hosting several events throughout November to celebrate Native Indigenous roots and identity. Sahmie Wytewa, Tribal Liaison at the University of San Diego is available to discuss these events and how she works to provide programming focused on honoring and empowering Native Indigenous cultures and identities, all year long. If you are interested in an interview or attending any events, email press@sandiego.edu.

AI's Impact on the Job Search

AI seems to be an ever-present part of our lives now -- from Chat GPT to devices like Alexa -- and it's even impacting the job search. Hiring companies are starting to integrate AI into their tracking systems to narrow down an applicant pool and even looking for more candidates with AI fluency. AI is also helping candidates draft their resume or prepare for a job interview using an AI tool that feeds candidates interview questions to answer. The team at USD's Career Development Center is available to talk about these new AI tools, what job seekers can do to make their application stand out and how they are working with students to stay on-top of these new changes.

On Thursday, November 14, all three fellows will be participating in a public panel discussion at the Peace and Justice Theatre from 6-7 p.m. The PeaceMakers will talk about their backgrounds, research, and thoughts on peacebuilding. How to Build Bridges Following a Tense Election Cycle

Following a months-long, polarizing march to Election Day, how do we move forward together, regardless of the results? “At the Edge of It All” was joined by Sarah Federman, associate professor of conflict resolution at USD and author of the award-winning book Transformative Negotiation. She explained the impulse to become tribal, and how we can fight that urge to instead engage with each other and build bridges in the face of division. Listen here.
