Giving Tuesday is Today - The State of Our Local Nonprofits and How You Can Support Them

83% of San Diegans shared they had benefited from services from a nonprofit in 2023, according to a 2023 poll. At the same time — 40% of local nonprofits shared they had seen an increase in demand for services in 2023, according to the latest Annual State of Nonprofit and Philanthropy Report by The Nonprofit Institute. Laura Deitrick, executive director of The Nonprofit Institute, can discuss the state of San Diego's local nonprofits. Deitrick can also share how to know if you are donating to a trustworthy organization with more than 12,000 nonprofits in San Diego.

Consumers Taking on Debt During the Holidays

According to a recent survey from NerdWallet, 28% of credit card users are still paying off last year’s holiday debt. The survey also found 10% of holiday shoppers will likely need to use some of their emergency savings to buy holiday gifts this year and 9% will prioritize gift buying over paying some of their regular bills. Dan Roccato, clinical professor of finance, is available to talk about this and how to save money this holiday season.

Fowler Business Concept Challenge Grand Finale

On Friday at 4 p.m., 16 teams from across campus will take the stage to pitch new business concepts to a live audience of local investors, industry leaders, students, and alumni for the chance to win scholarships. Some of the ideas include Drones for Humanity — fast, reliable, cost-effective, and scalable drone solutions to transport life-saving blood across Mexico, addressing the challenge of reaching rural hospitals.
