Supreme Court to Hear Case Over TikTok Ban
|
The Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments this week after it agreed to take up TikTok's appeal challenging a federal law that could ban the popular social media app by January 19. The law, which requires TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance to sell the platform to an American firm, is being contested on First Amendment grounds. Farhana Nusrat, assistant professor of marketing, can discuss the far-reaching implications of the case, as well as the impact on the younger generation if ByteDance refuses to sell.

January is Mental Wellness Awareness Month
|
January is a time to bring awareness to mental health disorders and encourage anyone to seek help. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association says 33% of Americans are making a mental health new year’s resolution, which is a 5% increase from last year. Lauren Bruaski, director of USD Tele-mental Health Training Clinic, is available to speak about how people can take charge of their mental health in 2025 and provide tips for people to cope with stress.

Finding a Job in the New Year with AI
|
A recent survey found that more than 50% of workers plan to look for a new job in 2025. And, as people apply for new jobs, AI is playing a new role in the career search. Hiring companies are starting to integrate AI into their tracking systems to narrow down an applicant pool and even looking for more candidates with AI fluency. AI is also helping candidates draft their resume or prepare for a job interview using an AI tool that feeds candidates interview questions to answer. The team at USD's Career Development Center is available to talk about these new AI tools, what job seekers can do to make their application stand out and how they are working with students to stay on top of these new changes.
