March 18, 2025

Good morning newsrooms!

Here's your USD News Connect — where each week the University of San Diego media relations team offers expert voices to speak on stories impacting our community. If you're interested in the stories below, or need experts for any other topic you might be working on, don't hesitate to reach out to us at press@sandiego.edu.*

What to Know About the Measles Cases Right Now

The CDC is reporting more than 300 confirmed measles cases across the country with five cases in California. Martha Fuller, associate professor of nursing, can talk about what these cases mean, how to protect yourself from the measles and who is most susceptible to serious illness.

This Week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Neurodiversity Celebration Week highlights the diverse ways individuals learn and process information. Neurodiverse students often have unique learning needs and strengths that go unrecognized in classrooms. The University of San Diego's Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity focuses on equipping educators with the tools to support students from all backgrounds. Niki Elliott, director of the center, is available for interviews to discuss how educators can better recognize and address the needs of neurodiverse students and why this work is crucial.

USD Hosts Energy Academy for Local Leaders to Learn About the Region's Energy Landscape

USD's Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC) and the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative (SDRCC) recently developed the San Diego Regional Energy Academy with a goal of helping community leaders understand San Diego's energy/power systems, and ultimately make more informed decisions in their government/nonprofit roles. Darbi Berry, director of Climate and Environmental Programs at the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative at the University of San Diego and Scott Anders, Director of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center, can discuss the program, the curriculum and why this program was created to fill a gap in an ever-evolving energy landscape.

USD Hoehn Family Galleries Exhibition: Georges Rouault – Printmaker, Painter, Prophet

The University of San Diego’s Hoehn Family Galleries is proud to present Georges Rouault – Printmaker, Painter, Prophet, a free exhibition showcasing the complete Miserere series—one of the most profound works of Christian art in the 20th century.

This exhibition holds special significance for USD, as the Miserere series was generously gifted to the university by Karen and Robert Hoehn with the promise that it would be shared with students and the community. It provides a unique opportunity to engage with a masterpiece that bridges art, faith, and social reflection.
