This Friday: Managing Global Uncertainty Panel

As global trade faces increasing volatility, business leaders must navigate a new and unpredictable landscape. The Ahlers Center for International Business at USD is hosting a panel that will address the critical trade challenges of 2025. Craig Barkacs, professor of business law, is one of the panelists. He can discuss the potential impacts of new trade policies under the current administration on businesses in our binational region and provide actionable strategies that businesses can use to manage uncertainty. Please RSVP to press@sandiego.edu if you would like to attend the panel.

How to Spend and Save as Interest Rates Remain High and Tariffs Increase

The Federal Reserve last week decided to keep interest rates unchanged, flagging growing volatility from current trade policies. With high borrowing costs and potential tariffs on various consumer goods, Dan Roccato, a clinical professor of finance, offers guidance to consumers on budgeting wisely and why it may be wise to make any big ticket purchases now, like appliances or cars.

Day of Zero Waste

In the world of next-day delivery and fast fashion, waste is ballooning faster than many places around the world can keep up. According to the United Nations, clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2015, creating large amounts of waste at the same time. The U.N. observes March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste, a time to raise awareness about the issue. John Alejandro, director of sustainability at USD, can talk about some of the environmental issues caused by constant deliveries and cheap, fast fashion, and some practices consumers and businesses can adopt to cut down on waste.
