Expanding Electric Vehicle Charging Networks
|
Governor Newsom recently announced California now has 48% more EV chargers than gas nozzles in the state. Meanwhile, Pilot Company, General Motors, and EVgo Inc. reached a major milestone in their nationwide electric vehicle charging collaboration, now offering fast-charging infrastructure across 25-plus states -- including California. Jae Kim, professor of industrial and systems engineering, can provide insight into the role of EV charging infrastructure in encouraging consumers to purchase electric cars, and how the increased number of EV chargers, especially fast chargers, will impact California’s electrical grid.

New Tenant Law Takes Effect
|
Starting April 1, renters in California will no longer be required to pay certain fees, thanks to a new law signed by Governor Newsom last fall. Senate Bill 611 prohibits landlords or leasing agents from charging tenants for "serving, posting, or delivering any notice" related to lease termination. Additionally, the law bans fees for paying rent or security deposits by check. Alysson Snow, director of the Housing Rights Project, can shed light on what tenants and landlords need to know about these changes and how SB 611 is part of a broader effort to strengthen tenants' rights and promote transparency in the rental process.

USD to Announce New Women’s Basketball Head Coach
|
University of San Diego Athletics will introduce Blanche Alverson as its new head coach for women’s basketball at a press conference on Thursday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Alverson becomes the fourth head coach in program history following a six-year tenure at Georgia Tech, where she served as the associate head coach of the Yellow Jackets. She helped GT reach the NCAA Tournament three times and was instrumental in the program's second-ever Sweet 16 appearance.
