Markets React to U.S. Tariffs
|
Less than a week after U.S. tariffs were announced and implemented, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 are down. As the markets react to the tariffs, businesses are calculating costs, and how much that might impact consumers. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics at USD, is available to talk about the tariffs and the global response to them. He can talk about how the markets are reacting, the proposition of tariffs being increased further, and what it all may mean for the national and global economies in the weeks and months ahead.

USD Alum and NASA Astronaut Jonny Kim Launched to Space
|
Last night, NASA astronaut and USD alum Jonny Kim launched into space aboard the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft. Diane Hoffoss, professor of mathematics, was one of Kim's professors when he attended USD. She is available to talk about having Kim as a student and share how exciting it is to see him go to space.

‘Voices of the River’ Film Festival
|
Tonight, USD will play host to a film festival that examines life on both sides of the Tijuana River. ‘Voices of the River,’ organized by the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and the Tijuana River Project, features four short films that cover issues in the binational region, including pollution and immigration. The showings will be followed by a panel discussion. Rebeca Cazares Adame is the director of USD’s Cross Border Initiatives. She can talk about the event, the films, and work being done by groups on both sides of the border to address these issues. The event starts at 5 p.m. and is free to the public. Architecture Professor Shares His Passion for Innovation and Tackling Society's Needs Through Design

Dr. Daniel López-Pérez, professor of architecture and founding faculty member of the Architecture Program at the University of San Diego, shared his journey from Madrid to the U.S. and his passion for architecture. He discussed how architects shape the future, addressing societal needs like climate resilience and housing affordability. López-Pérez also highlighted his innovative Polyhaus project, tackling California's housing shortage with a sustainable, fire-resistant design. Listen to the episode here.
