Earth Month: USD Students + Professors Study Solution to Remove Heavy Metals from Ports and Marinas
|
San Diego-based company Earthwise Sorbents and USD have partnered to test how they can clean up local ports and marinas using Earthwise Sorbents booms. Over the last two years, the team of students and Environmental and Ocean Sciences professor Michel Boudrias, have been able to collect hydrocarbon, microplastics, invasive species and heavy metals like copper, zinc and arsenic at very high levels in areas like Mission Bay and the San Diego Bay. Students are looking into whether this could serve as a model for other ports and marinas outside of San Diego. Students and professor Michel Boudrias are available to share more about their research with b-roll opportunities in their lab.
