California Touts State of Renewable Energy

The governor’s office recently reported new data showing that in 2024 the state added a single-year record in clean energy capacity. That comes as the state works toward its 2045 goal to have all energy sales come from renewable or non-carbon sources. Scott Anders is the administrative director of USD’s Energy Policy Initiative Center, and works with local leaders and companies on producing clean energy in San Diego. He can talk about the latest news out of Sacramento, what it means for energy and the green economy in California, and what steps are being taken to keep pace in San Diego.

Earth is Warming at a Record Rate

A new report from the World Meteorological Organization warns that global temperatures are likely to exceed the 1.5°C threshold outlined in the Paris Agreement within the next two years. That's a full decade earlier than previously predicted. Zhi-Yong Yin, professor of environmental and ocean sciences, is available to discuss some of the key factors contributing to this warming.

CA Assembly Bill Would Allow the Medical Board of California to Oversee its Own Rehab Facility for Doctors

A pending Assembly bill (AB 408), sponsored by the Medical Board of California, is proposing for the Board to oversee a substance-abuse treatment program that would treat doctors with physical or mental impairments, including substance-use disorders. Doctors would still be able to work while confidentially in the program. The Consumer Protection Policy Center (CPPC) at the University of San Diego’s School of Law researched whether a Board-supervised program like this would be beneficial to patients. Their findings found that programs in similarly sized states showed little impact on the protection of patients. Marcus Friedman, Administrative Director, Consumer Protection Policy Center, can discuss his team’s findings and concerns they have with the passage of this bill.
