Tallie, associate professor of African history, can discuss how Juneteenth may have shifted since becoming a federal holiday and what the holiday's meaning looks like today.

What’s Next for Today’s College Grads Entering the Workforce?

As graduation season winds down, new grads face a tougher job market than expected. The unemployment rate for recent college graduates rose to 5.8% in March, up from 4.6% a year ago, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Job postings on Handshake have dropped 15% over the past year, while applications have jumped 30%. Matt Yepez, senior director at USD’s Career Development Center, can share how grads can stand out and successfully launch their careers in a more competitive landscape.

Warmer Oceans and The Impact on Sea Life Health

Recent reports have showcased rising temperatures around the world but that also means that ocean temperatures are increasingly hotter too. And, when we see warmer oceans, that has a direct impact on the health of sea life, including corals. Cawa Tran, assistant professor of biology, studies symbiosis, specifically the connection between corals, sea anemones and microorganisms, and the algae and bacteria that live inside of them. Professor Tran can discuss how warmer oceans impact corals and why their livelihood matters to the larger health of our marine ecosystem.
