Student-Led "Torero Thrift" Turns Campus Waste into Free Move-In Must-Haves
This move-in weekend, USD debuts Torero Thrift, a student-led sustainability initiative tackling campus waste. After collecting dorm items like lamps, mini-fridges, and supplies during spring move-out, students stored and prepared them to be redistributed for free to incoming and returning students. It’s a hands-on, student-driven effort supporting USD’s zero waste goals, making move-in more affordable, sustainable, and community-focused. Visuals and interviews will be available during move-in on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.

USD Prioritizes Student Well-Being with ‘Year of Wellness’
As students return to campus this fall, USD is putting their well-being front and center with its Year of Wellness initiative. Recently named one of only 16 universities on the Princeton Review’s 2025 Mental Health Services Honor Roll, USD is doubling down on its commitment to student wellness with new programs and resources timed to support students as they transition into a new academic year. Chris Burden, assistant vice president of wellness, can speak to the full range of wellness services being offered, including mental health programs, peer support and campus-wide engagement efforts. A representative from the new Palomar Health Student Wellness Center is also available to discuss how the facility is designed to meet students’ needs and encourage healthy habits right from the start of the semester.
