New iPhone Signals Trend Toward 'Circular Economy'
|
Apple recently announced its new line of iPhones and the company says 30% of the iPhone 17 is made with recycled materials, including up to 100% recycled materials in its battery. It’s a prominent example of a growing trend to create what experts call a “circular economy,” a cycle in which companies reduce waste by reusing materials and extending their usefulness and lifespan. Gordon Hoople is a professor of integrated engineering, which examines the impact engineers have on society, and different sustainability practices. He can talk about the news from Apple and explain the growing buy-in on the circular economy.
