How Parents Can Manage Children’s Phone Use

Smartphones are everywhere, and have become an integral part of our lives. As such, every parent has to consider when the best time is to give their child a phone. There are all kinds of ways parents are navigating the decision – and the solution can be different for each child and family. Susannah Stern is a professor of communication at USD. She recently published research that looked at the effects of parents who pledge to delay giving their child a smartphone. She can talk about that, and different approaches schools and families are taking across the country.

Veterans Day: The Role Nurses Play in Caring for Our Veterans

This year for Veterans Day, USD is shining a light on veterans healthcare. Wednesday night at 6 p.m., USD’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science will host a special event showcasing the critical role nurses play in providing holistic and equitable care to veterans, as they transition to civilian life. In the lead up to the event, Director of USD’s Clinical Nursing Specialist (CNS) program and U.S. Navy veteran, Dr. Sheree Scott, is available to talk about the state of healthcare for veterans, and some of the research she has done to help address the challenges veterans face in getting proper care.

USD Hosts Cyber Law & Risk Symposium to Discuss Emerging Digital Threats & Challenges

Cybersecurity experts, legal professionals and business leaders will join the 7th's annual Cyber Law & Risk Symposium to discuss topics like ransomware defense, international cybercrime and privacy regulations that are impacting the world of cybersecurity. Mark Castellano, with USD's Center for Cyber Security Engineering and Technology (CCSET), can talk about some of the topics being discussed and why it is important to get leaders together to share the latest issues impacting cybersecurity and its legalities.
