Protests in Iran drew a violent response and have sparked uncertainty around the globe. Darren Kew is the dean of USD’s Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, and is a former advisor to the United Nations and U.S. State Department. He can talk about the regional and global implications of recent developments in Iran, the looming threat of intervention, the democratic and civil society dimensions of the protests, and the possible ramifications of it all.

Flu Strain Spiking Cases Across Country

Flu season is in full swing, and the California Department of Public Health recently warned of a particularly nasty strain popping up in cases across the state and country. Nationally, the U.S. has seen the highest number of cases in decades. Kevin Maxwell is a clinical associate professor of nursing at USD and a certified family nurse practitioner. He’s available to talk about the flu strain sweeping the country, and what people can do to stay healthy and manage symptoms.

USD’s Border Design Lab Partners on Cross-Border Environmental Art and Architecture Exhibition

USD’s Border Design Lab, in partnership with Promotora de las Bellas Artes, presents Border Ecologies: entre el agua y la tierra, a cross-border environmental art and architecture exhibition at The FRONT Arte & Cultura in San Ysidro. Opening Saturday, January 24, and on view through January 31, the exhibition brings together years of USD-led research and community collaboration focused on watershed landscapes and ecological systems in the U.S.–Mexico border region. Adriana Cuellar, associate professor of architecture and founder of the Border Design Lab, is available to speak about the project’s research and the importance of protecting and reimagining border ecologies through collective action. *Interviews available in English and Spanish.
