Sunday, February 1 Kicks Off Black History Month
|
During the month of February, the U.S. celebrates the history and achievements of African Americans during Black History Month. And, this year marks the 100th anniversary of this celebratory month. T.J. Tallie, associate professor of history, is available to discuss the significance of Black History Month and its importance over the last 100 years. Tallie can also share his expertise on African history, the Black Diaspora and Jim Crow laws, as it connects to understanding Black history in America.

Lawsuit Over AI in Hiring Process

It’s become common knowledge that many companies are incorporating AI in some fashion into their job application process, and a new lawsuit claims applicants are being unfairly left in the dark. The lawsuit equates the system to how credit score rankings work, and says applicants should know how they’re being ranked by these systems. Orly Lobel is an award-winning author, Director of USD’s Center for Employment and Labor Policy and expert in employment law and tech policy. She can talk about some of the ways AI is being used by employers, and the challenges that poses to workers and applicants, and how it could be ripe for discrimination.

What Record Global Warming Means for San Diego
|
New international climate reports show human-caused warming continued in 2025, with the planet running about 1.5° Celsius hotter than pre-industrial levels for the third year in a row, especially in the oceans and at the poles. Darbi Berry, director of the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative, is available to explain what this means for San Diego, including local ocean warming, coastal impacts and how the region’s climate initiatives fit into the global picture.

At the Edge of It All:
How Teens Can Solve Problems with an Innovator's Mindset
|
Ashley Ahrens-Víquez, Program Operations and Engagement Manager for The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education at the University of San Diego, joined "At the Edge of it All" to share how her work empowers young learners to think outside the box by using an innovator's mindset. Ahrens-Víquez also talked about her team's upcoming Jacobs Teen Innovation Challenge -- an educational project which calls on teens, all over the world, to feel empowered to solve a problem in their community.
