NASA Astronaut & USD Alumnus Matthew Dominick Returns to USD to Share His Experience as an Astronaut

NASA Astronaut Matthew Dominick '05, a USD alumnus who majored in electrical engineering, will return to his alma mater for Grandparents and Family Spring Weekend on Friday, February 20 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Dominick will share a 20-minute presentation about his recent trip to the International Space Station in 2024 as the commander of NASA’s Crew 8 Dragon. After the presentation, Dean Chell Roberts of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering will facilitate a Q+A with Dominick, followed by questions from the audience. Black History Month Community Event: USD's Copley Library Hosts Author Talk with Natalie Baszile

In honor of Black History Month, USD's Copley Library and the San Diego Public Library are hosting an author talk and Q+A with author Natalie Baszile of Queen Sugar on Monday, February 23 at 7 p.m. The free community event will discuss Baszile's debut novel turned TV series, Queen Sugar, which focuses on an African American woman who unexpectedly inherits a sugarcane farm. She also will discuss her latest book, We Are Each Other’s Harvest: Celebrating African American Farmers, Land, and Legacy. Author Natalie Baszile is available to discuss more details about the event and her books. 

 

USD's College Corps Awarded $5.5 million to Continue Program for Three More Years

College Corps launched in 2022 and provides students with $10,000 a year in exchange for 450 hours of community service in the areas of K-12 education, food insecurity, environmental stewardship and community health. USD has been participating in College Corps since its inception and was recently awarded $5.5 million in funding to continue the university's program for three more years, starting in the fall of this year. College Corps organizers are available for interviews to share what makes USD's College Corps unique and describe how hundreds of USD students have used the program to get more connected to the local community.

At the Edge of It All Podcast

Theatrical Play Celebrating Women of STEM

 

The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education at USD and The Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival (JFest) have partnered to create an original play honoring four local women who make significant contributions to STEM. Their stories are woven into a narrative of monologues and music, and their discoveries come to life through interactive activities. You can view it on Sunday, February 22 at 5 p.m. in the Warren Auditorium on USD’s campus.
